From application to service development
09-19, 15:40–15:50 (Europe/Berlin), Keynote Room BB007

ownCloud offers a great platform for developing applications that can integrate a variety of services, from document editing apps to image previews and more. After running the CERNBox service for the last 5 years, an ownCloud based cloud sync and share for CERN, we have identified that as more integrations are done in the ownCloud platform more knowledge is needed by the ownCloud operators to manage the platform. In CERNBox, we have introduced a distributed approach to split team responsibilities when developing service integrations.

Hugo works as Software Engineer at CERN in the Storage Group where he is responsible for the proactive service management of the CERNBox Service, a service that provides sync and share to more than 14,000 CERN users.

He also performs day-to-day storage operations and end-user support for CERN backbone storage technologies: EOS, CASTOR, and CERNBox, managing more than 1,500 servers with more than 60,000 disks, representing about 300 petabytes of data.
